MCP Client Setup

Let Claude, Cursor, and other AI tools monitor websites on your behalf using Model Context Protocol.

What You'll Need

  • A QuietDiff API key (get one from Settings after signing up)
  • Or use a trial key for testing (no signup required — ask your AI assistant to get one)

Claude Desktop

Add QuietDiff to Claude Desktop's MCP server list. The AI can then create monitors, check for changes, and use pre-built templates.

Configuration File Location

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Configuration

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "quietdiff": {
      "url": "https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer qd_your_api_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Replace qd_your_api_key_here with your actual API key from QuietDiff Settings.

Restart Claude Desktop after saving. You can then ask:

"Monitor stripe.com/pricing for changes to the Pro plan price"

Cursor

Add QuietDiff to Cursor's MCP configuration file so the AI can monitor websites while you code.

Configuration File Location

.cursor/mcp.json in your project root, or global config at:

  • macOS: ~/.cursor/mcp.json
  • Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.cursor\mcp.json

Configuration

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "quietdiff": {
      "url": "https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer qd_your_api_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Cursor will load the config when you restart the editor or reload the window.

Generic Remote MCP Client

Any tool that supports remote MCP servers can connect to QuietDiff. Use these connection details:

  • MCP Endpoint: https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp
  • Authentication: Bearer token in Authorization header
  • Protocol: MCP over HTTPS (JSON-RPC)

Example cURL Test

Verify your API key works:

curl -X POST https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer qd_your_api_key" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "jsonrpc": "2.0",
    "method": "tools/list",
    "id": 1
  }'

Should return a list of available MCP tools.

OAuth (for Claude.ai & ChatGPT)

If you're using Claude.ai (web) or ChatGPT with custom actions, use OAuth instead of an API key:

  1. In your AI tool's settings, add a new MCP connector
  2. Enter URL: https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp
  3. Choose OAuth authentication
  4. The AI will redirect you to QuietDiff to authorize access
  5. Sign in (or create an account) and grant permission

The OAuth flow uses PKCE for security and issues short-lived access tokens. No API key needed.

Available MCP Tools

Once connected, your AI assistant can use these tools:

  • get_trial_key — Get a 7-day trial key without signing up
  • list_templates — Browse pre-built monitor templates
  • create_from_template — Create a monitor from a template
  • create_monitor — Create a custom monitor with your own selectors
  • list_monitors — See all your monitors
  • get_monitor_health — Check if a monitor is working
  • pause_monitor — Pause or resume a monitor
  • list_changes — Get detected changes
  • get_snapshot — View the latest snapshot

Example Prompts

Try asking your AI assistant:

  • "Get me a QuietDiff trial key" (no signup required)
  • "List available QuietDiff monitor templates"
  • "Monitor example.com for changes to the main heading"
  • "Create a monitor from the competitor pricing template for stripe.com/pricing"
  • "Check if there are any new changes on my monitors"
  • "Show me the latest snapshot from the Stripe pricing monitor"
  • "Pause my changelog monitor while we're on vacation"

Troubleshooting

If the MCP connection isn't working:

  • Invalid API key: Make sure you copied the full key including the qd_ prefix
  • 401 Unauthorized: Check that your API key hasn't expired (keys don't expire by default, but you can set an expiration in Settings)
  • Connection timeout: Verify you can reach https://quietdiff.com from your network
  • Tools not appearing: Restart your IDE or AI application after updating the config
