MCP Integration Quickstart

Let Claude, Cursor, and other AI assistants monitor websites on your behalf using Model Context Protocol (MCP).

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol lets AI assistants use external tools. With QuietDiff's MCP server, your AI can:

  • Create and manage monitors
  • Check for changes on websites
  • Get the latest snapshots
  • List all your monitors

Get Started (3 Options)

Option 1: OAuth (Recommended for Claude.ai & ChatGPT)

For Claude.ai or ChatGPT, add QuietDiff as an OAuth MCP connector - no manual API key setup required:

  1. In Claude or ChatGPT settings, add a new MCP connector
  2. Enter URL: https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp
  3. Choose OAuth authentication
  4. Sign in when prompted (or create a free account)

OAuth discovery endpoints automatically configure the authentication flow.

Option 2: No-Signup Trial (Quick Testing)

Get a trial key instantly without creating an account. Trial keys are valid for 7 days and can browse templates.

Ask your AI assistant:

"Get me a trial key for QuietDiff"

Or call the get_trial_key tool directly. The assistant will receive a trial_ key you can use immediately.

Option 3: API Key (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code)

  1. Sign up at quietdiff.com (free tier: 10 monitors)
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Generate an API key (starts with qd_)

Claude Desktop Setup

Add QuietDiff to Claude Desktop's MCP config:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "quietdiff": {
      "url": "https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer qd_your_api_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Config location: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json (macOS)
or %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json (Windows)

Cursor Setup

In Cursor settings, add the QuietDiff MCP server:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "quietdiff": {
      "url": "https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer qd_your_api_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

VS Code with Continue

If using Continue extension in VS Code, add to ~/.continue/config.json:

{
  "experimental": {
    "modelContextProtocolServers": [
      {
        "name": "quietdiff",
        "url": "https://quietdiff.com/api/mcp",
        "headers": {
          "Authorization": "Bearer qd_your_api_key_here"
        }
      }
    ]
  }
}

Example Usage

Once configured, you can ask Claude or Cursor:

  • "Get me a trial key for QuietDiff" (no signup required)
  • "List available monitor templates"
  • "Monitor example.com for changes to the homepage title"
  • "Create a monitor from the competitor pricing template for stripe.com/pricing"
  • "Check if there are any new changes on my docs monitor"
  • "List all my active monitors"
  • "Pause the competitor pricing monitor"

Available Templates

Use pre-built templates for common monitoring tasks:

  • Competitor Pricing - Track pricing page changes
  • Changelog / Release Notes - Monitor product updates
  • Terms of Service - Track legal document changes
  • Job Postings - Monitor new job openings
  • JSON API Field - Monitor API endpoint fields
  • Back in Stock - Get notified when products restock

Ask your AI: "List available QuietDiff templates" to see all options with examples.

Available MCP Tools

The MCP server provides 9 tools for monitoring and management:

  • get_trial_key - Get a 7-day trial key (no signup required)
  • list_templates - List pre-built monitor templates
  • create_from_template - Create a monitor from a template
  • create_monitor - Create a new website monitor
  • list_monitors - List all monitors
  • get_monitor_health - Check monitor status
  • pause_monitor - Pause/resume a monitor
  • list_changes - Get detected changes
